¡¡Trees are useful to ¡¡1¡¡ in three very important ¡¡2 ¡¡: They provide him with wood and other ¡¡3 ¡¡; they give him shade; they help to prevent drought and ¡¡4¡¡ .Unfortunately, in many ¡¡5 ¡¡of the world, man has not realized that the third of these services is ¡¡6 ¡¡important.
¡¡Two thousand years ¡¡7 ¡¡a rich and powerful country cut down its trees ¡¡8 ¡¡warships, with which to gain itself an empire. It gained the empire but, ¡¡9 ¡¡its trees, its soil became hard and ¡¡10 ¡¡. When the empire fell ¡¡11 ¡¡, the home country found itself faced by floods and starvation.
¡¡Even where a government realizes the importance of a plentiful supply of trees, it is difficult for ¡¡12 ¡¡to persuade the villager to see this. The villager wants wood to cook his food ¡¡13 ¡¡; and he can earn money ¡¡14 ¡¡making charcoal or selling wood to the townsman. He is usually too lazy or too careless to plant and look ¡¡15 ¡¡new trees. So, unless the government has a good system of control, or can ¡¡16 ¡¡the people, the forests will slowly disappear.
¡¡This does not only ¡¡17 ¡¡that the villagers' sons and grandsons have ¡¡18 ¡¡trees. The results are even more ¡¡19 ¡¡: for where ¡¡20 ¡¡are trees, their roots break the soil up¡ªallowing the rain to sink in¡ªand also bind (½áºÏ)the soil, thus preventing its ¡¡21 ¡¡washed away easily, but where there are no ¡¡22 ¡¡, the rain falls ¡¡23 ¡¡hard ground and carrying ¡¡24 ¡¡with it the rich top soil, in which crops ¡¡25 ¡¡so well. When all the top soil is gone, nothing remains but worthless desert.

Tears clouded my eyes as I stood in our washing room, holding Brett's jeans and shirt full of burn holes.
Tired and defeated, I 21 to the floor. The clothes were just one more thing Brett had 22 . He often got almost everything in the house out of 23 . Many windows in our house needed repair due to his breaking 24 to steal money when he chose to live on the street. Yet none of this could compare to the emotional 25 Brett had done to our once quiet home.
Brett came to live with us when he was 12 years old. During the next few years I had dealt with Brett as 26 as possible, but inside I was shouting,"I don't want him in my house another day, Lord! I just can't 27 him!" Having wiped my tears, I continued 28 him as before.
When Brett was nearly 18, he landed again in Juvenile Hall(ÉÙ¹ÜËù). After that, my husband and I had to send Brett to a boarding school for helping 29 teens.
At the 30 ceremony, each graduate held a white rose to give to the person who had 31 the most to him or her.
Brett spoke 32 to his parents and then spoke to me, "You did so much. You were always there, no matter 33 happened. My mom and dad, I was their kid. But you, 34 troubled enough by me, always 35 me such love. And I want you to know I love you for it."
36 , I stood as Brett placed the white rose in my hand and hugged me 37 .
At that moment, tears 38 in my eyes again, this time not for disappointment but for 39 . Although I had struggled with silent 40 toward my stepson, Brett had seen only my actions. Love is action. We may not always have positive feelings about certain people in our lives, but we can love them.

Mark Gibson is a former gymnastics coach who once worked with many excellent athletes. He often tells a wonderful story about a 15-year-old ¡¡16 girl, Cindy, whose attitude brought out the best in everyone.
Cindy wasn¡¯t a great ¡¡17 , but when she was in the gym, everyone complained less, worked harder, and, not ¡¡18 , achieved more. Cindy was such a powerful motivator ¡¡19 she could see nothing. When it was her turn to do the vault£¨ÌøÂí£©, mother would also ¡¡20 alongside her, and tell her how close she was to the vault. When her mom said, ¡°Vault!¡±, Cindy would reach out and jump, ¡¡21 her mother and herself.
Cindy loved the sport and kept ¡¡22 because she and her mom refused to be defeated by her ¡¡23 . Mark called her the most ¡¡24 member of the team, not because of her ¡¡25 ability, but because of her heart and because she ¡¡26 a standard of perseverance(¼á³Ö) and courage that inspired others to get more out of themselves. Everyone who ¡¡27 her work hard to be the best 28 how much more they could get out of themselves.
This is leadership---leadership by ¡¡29 . And we see this sort of leadership not only in ¡¡30 but also in families and in the workplace. Often the most important members of the team are not the ¡¡31 , most skilled, or most powerful. Instead, their ¡¡32 is in their attitude and their ability to inspire and ¡¡33 others with their optimism, enthusiasm, and determination.
People who know how to get the best out of themselves get the best of others.
There¡¯s no doubt that Cindy¡¯s ¡¡34 has a great effect on her teammates. A person¡¯s personality matters most because it comes from within and does not depend on ¡¡35 alone.
