题目列表(包括答案和解析)

At times my mom has been uncomfortable seeing these qualities in me. For example, when I was 12, I went to Puerto Rico all by myself to stay with my grandmother for the summer. My mom was extremely nervous about it. She kept telling me how things were different in Puerto Rico, to always put on sunscreen, not to wander away from my grandmother, and other warnings. She helped me pack and did not leave the airport until she saw my plane take off.

But despite her worries, she let me go on my own. As I moved into my teens, she continued to give me space to grow and learn, even when it might have been difficult for her. When I reached my senior year, I decided to move away for college. Once again I found that I differed from my peers. While many of them wanted to stay close to home, I couldn't wait to be out in the world on my own. I had been looking forward to this chance for longer than I could remember. And once again, while my mom may not have been happy at the thought of me going away, she was supportive and excited for me. Sure, there were times when she’d nag (不断地唠叨)me about certain choices I made, but for the most part she did not stand in my way.

One big thing I realized during my senior year was that she actually believes in me and trusts me. That means a lot. Most of my life, and especially when I was little, the main person I tried to impress was my mother. I knew she expected nothing but the best from me. Sometimes it was hard to live up to her standards; getting a single B on my report card would make me feel bad because I knew she wanted me to have all A’s.

I know that her high standards have helped me stay focused on what's important, like education, and made me who I am. I am thankful for her support and involvement in my life. Most of all I respect her; she is the strongest woman I know and that's why I have turned out so strong and independent.

My grandfather was a teacher. He was the head teacher of a school for boys at the ages of thirteen and eighteen. I know that he was a kind man, because when I am young, he gave me presents, and set me on his knees, and told me stories. And the boys at his school were afraid of him. At school, when he walked into a room full of noise boys, there was silence at once. When he looked at a boy with a certain look in his eye, that boy went red in the face, and looked down his shoes. If a boy brought to him careless work, my grandfather picked up a boy's book and threw it across the room, shouting,“Do it all again, and take it back in the morning!” If the boy was later, or if he forgot to take the work, he had to do it again.

When times get toughwe all look for ways to cut back. When we're hungrywe eat at home instead of going out.We take buses instead of taxis. And we wear our old designer jeans just a few months longer. With college expenses at all?time highshigh school students are eager to do anything to cut the cost of a university education.

One cost?cutting proposal is to allow college students to get a bachelor's degree in three years instead of four.Educational institutions have been actively exploring ways to make the learning process more efficient. But there's a questionWould the quality of undergraduate(本科生)education sufferFew US universities have formally approved a “three?year degreemodel.

I doubt that mainstream North American colleges will carry out a three?year curriculum(课程)any time soon. For one thingmost universities already allow highly qualified students to graduate early by testing out of certain classes and obtaining a number of college credits(学分)In additionat famous universitiesthe committee who determine which courses are required and which courses are electives are unlikely to suddenly “throw out”one quarter of the required credits.Professors will resist “diluting(稀释)”the quality of the education they offer.

In my opiniona quality four?year education is always superior to a quality three?year education.A college education requires sufficient time for a student to become skilled in their major and do coursework in fields outside their major. It is not a good idea to water down educationany more than it's not a good idea to water down medicine. If we want to help students find their way through universitywe should help them understand early on what knowledge and skills they need to have upon graduation. We should allow students to test out of as many courses as possible. We should give them a chance to earn money as interns(实习生)in meaningful part?time jobs that relate to their university studiessuch as the five?year co?op program at Northeastern University.

Belectives' credits make up one quarter of the required credits

Call students are required to finish four?year education before graduation

Dsome excellent students can graduate ahead of time

3.We can infer that ________.

Athe author is a college professor

Bthe author thinks the cost of a university education is too high for people to afford

Cthe author considers the university education quality very important

Dthe author pays special attention to the all?round development of college students

I was on the shoulder of a busy highway in Chicago, looking at my tool-box and spare tire (备用轮胎). I had   31  tires before—that was not a big deal—but I was   32  about being approached by another person while stuck on the side of the road, or being   33  by a passing car.

As I bent into the trunk (后备箱), I heard a man’s   34  from behind and to my left. I had no idea what he said,   35  when I heard his voice I screamed and ran toward the   36  building. After a moment I realized he wasn’t  37  me, so I turned to see what he was doing.

38 , I saw a minibus full of boy scouts (童子军队员). They then   39  in front of my car. And I heard the man tell the boys to remove the spare tire from my trunk to   40  my flat! As I timidly (胆怯地) walked back, I could hear him speaking to the   41 .

The boys learned a lot that day, and so did I. I’m so grateful there are   49  men in the world. I saw one,   50  our youth to be honorable, making the world a safer place for women, for everyone.
