C

Sam Green was a famous photographer. He traveled all over the world, taking photos for books and newspapers. His photographs won many prizes and he earned a lot of money.

“I will do anything to get a good photo.” He often said. “I’d like to go anywhere at any time, even if it is dangerous, for example, a forest fire.” That was true. He had photographs of earthquakes, forest fires, floods, even wars. When something interesting happened, he went to photograph it. He never took his wife along with him though she kept on asking him to.

“I travel for work, not for pleasure,” he told her. “You won’t enjoy yourself, and I won’t have time to look after you. Sometimes there’s not even anywhere to stay at night and I have to sleep outside. I often don’t have a good meal for days. You won’t like it.”

“Sam, I’m not a child,” his wife went on. “I can look after myself. Please take me with you next time.”

Sam didn’t say anything, but he thought about it. One day when he was asked to go to Africa, he said, “You can come with me if you want to. I’ve got to take photographs of the wildlife there. We’ll have to live with a forest keeper.”

His wife was very pleased. And she had a very good time the first day there.

The next morning Sam started off to find some tigers to photograph. His wife went with him, but a few minutes later she got lost. Then Sam heard her crying. He ran back and saw her running towards him. A large tiger was catching up with her. Quickly Sam took out his camera and pointed at his wife and the tiger.

Then he shouted. “Slow down, woman. I can’t get you both in the picture!” (307 w)
