5、A thief who dropped a winning lottery ticket(彩票)at the scene of his crime has been given a lesson in honesty. His victim, who picked up the ticket, then claimed the £25000 prize, managed to trace him, and handed over the cash.

The robbery happened when maths professor Vinicio Sabbatucci,58, was changing a tyro on an Italian motorway. Another motorist, who stopped to " help", stole a suitcase from his car and drove off. The professor found the dropped ticket and put it in his pocket before driving home to Ascoli in eastern Italy.

Next day, he saw the lottery results on TV and, taking out the ticket, realized it was a winner. He claimed the 60 million lire(里拉) prize. Then he began a battle with his conscience. Finally, he decided he could not keep the money despite having been robbed. He advertised in newspapers and on radio, saying: "I'm trying to find the man who robbed me. I have 60 million for him--- a lottery win. Please meet me. Anonymity(匿名) guaranteed."

Professor Sabbatucci received hundreds of calls from people hoping to trick him into handing them the cash. But there was one voice he recognized--- and he arranged to meet the man in a park. The robber, a 35-year-old unemployed father of two, gave back the suitcase and burst into tears. He could not believe what was happening. "Why didn't you keep the money?" he asked. The professor replied: “I couldn't because it's not mine.” Then he walked off, spurning the thief's offer of a reward.

4、Attention to detail is something everyone can and should do —especially in today’s tight job market. Bob Crossley, a human-resources expert notices this in the job applications that come across his desk every day. “It’s amazing how many candidates cross out themselves,” he says.

“Resumes (简历)arrive with all kinds of faults. Some candidates don’t bother to spell the company’s name correctly. Once I see a mistake, I cross out the candidates,” Crossley concludes. “If they cannot take care of these details, why should we trust them with a job ?”

Can we pay too much attention to details? Absolutely. Perfectionists struggle over little things at the cost of something larger they work toward. “To keep from losing the forest for the trees,” says Charles Garfield, the professor at the university of California, San Francisco, “We must constantly ask ourselves how the details we’re working on fit into the larger picture. If they don’t, we should drop them and move to something else.”

Garfield compares this process to his work as a computer scientist at NASA. “The Apollo moon launch was slightly off course 90 percent of the time,” says Garfield. “But a successful landing was still likely because we knew the exact coordinates of our goal. This allowed us to make adjustments as necessary.” Knowing where to go helps us judge the importance of every task we undertake .

Too often we believe what accounts for other’s success is some special secret or a lucky break. But rarely is success so mysterious. Again and again, we see that by doing little things within our grasp well, large rewards follow.

3、Between the innocence of babyhood and the seriousness of manhood we find a delightful creature called a “boy”. Boys come in different sizes, weights, and colors, but all boys have the same belief: to enjoy every second of every minute of every hour of every day and to fill the air with noise until the adult males pack them off to bed at night.

Boys are found everywhere – on top of, under, inside of, climbing on, swinging from, running around, or jumping to. Mothers spoil them, little girls hate them, older sisters and brothers love them, and God protects them. A boy is TRUTH with dirt on its face. BEAUTY with a cut on its finger, WISDOM with chocolate in its hair, and the HOPE of the future with a snake in its pocket.

When you are busy, a boy is a trouble – maker and a noise. When you want him to make a good impression, his brain turns to jelly or else he becomes a wild creature bent on destroying the world and himself with it.

A boy is a mixture – he has the stomach of a horse, the digestion (消化力) of stones and sand, the energy of an atomic bomb, the curiosity of a cat, the imagination of a superman, the shyness of a sweet girl, the brave nature of a bull, the violence of a firecracker, but when you ask him to make something, he has five thumbs (拇指) on each hand.

He likes ice cream, knives, saws, Christmas, comic books, woods, water (in its natural habitat), large animals, Dad, trains, Saturday mornings, and fire engines. He is not much for Sunday schools, company, schools, books without pictures, music lessons, neckties, barbers, girls, overcoats, adults, or bedtime.

Nobody else is so early to rise, or so late to supper. Nobody else gets so much fun out of trees, dogs, and breezes. Nobody else can put into one pocket a rusty knife, a half eaten apple, a three-feet rope, six cents and some unknown things.

A boy is a magical creature – he is your headache but when you come home at night with only shattered pieces of your hopes and dreams, he can mend them like new with two magic words, “Hi, Dad!”

2、John McCain and Barack Obama call for closer U.S.-Chinese cooperation on trade, the environment and nuclear proliferation (扩散)in the upcoming issue of an American business group's magazine. They do so in an unusual effort to court voters abroad.

Both articles appeared Sunday on the website of the American Chamber of Commerce(商会) in China, and will be published in China Brief, the chamber's monthly magazine, on September 22.

Both stress that the countries should work more closely to ease trade friction(摩擦), fight global warming, improve military exchanges, and block the spread of nuclear weapons to such countries as Iran and North Korea.

"Cooperation on the key, enduring global challenges, such as climate change, can deepen understanding and enhance confidence. ""We also need to deepen high-level dialogues on a sustained basis on economic, security and global political issues", said Obama in the article.

McCain agreed that the cooperation with China would be essential in addressing issues of global concern. "The United States shares common interests with China that can form the basis of a strong partnership on issues of global concern, including climate change, trade and proliferation," he added. “and I hope to see our relationship develop in a manner that benefits both countries and, in turn, the Asia-Pacific region and the world,” he noted.

Both candidates(候选人) were impressed by China's economic success.

"China has achieved extraordinary, sustained growth over the past three decades. Hundreds of millions of people in China live better now than most thought possible even two decades ago," Obama said.

"China's double-digit growth rates have brought hundreds of millions out of poverty, energized the economies of its neighbors and produced many new economic opportunities," McCain said.

Gao Wenhuan, 21st Century Online's special reporter, interviewed Marshall M. Bouton, president of the Chicago Council on Global Affairs. "My guess is, regardless of who is elected in November, you will hear basically the same description that China is a strategic partner and competitor," said Bouton.

A survey conducted by the Council in July 2008 found that the majority of respondents clearly admired China’s accomplishments, but some Americans viewed China’s rising global power as a threat. According to the survey, China now is seen as the most influential country in the world following the U.S..
