Would you like to know if your body is older or younger than it should be? Dr David Wikenheiser has been studying ageing in Vancouver, Canada, for the past 10 years and has found the average person is 15 or more years older biologically than their actual age.
He says: “We all know people who are 30 but look over 40, and others who are 70 yet look 50. The difference comes down to lifestyle. Some people's bodies get ‘rusty(生锈)’ faster than others, and this makes them age more quickly.”
After conducting more than 3,000 tests, Dr Wikenheiser believes that, on average, you can lower our biological age by 10 years in three months with the right lifestyle changes.
“You can't change your genetics (遗传) but you can make other changes, such as eating the right food, drinking enough water to flush out toxins (毒素), exercising and managing stress.” he says.
But exercising too much is just as bad as not doing enough. Working out for more than two hours at a time every day puts too great a strain on your heart.
“Multivitamin (多种维生素) and antioxidant (抗氧化剂) supplements are important even if you're eating the right amount of fruit and vegetables. Today's soil tends to lack important minerals so these are no longer found in the food we eat, in large enough quantities. We should also change bleached (漂白的) white table salt for natural sea salt which is much better for us.”
It's also important to eat three meals a day. Missed meals put a strain on your brain as your blood sugar level drops. Many of us are also eating the wrong fats or avoiding fat altogether, so we miss out on important nutritional (营养的) oils.

In the 1940s, Pinehaven Park was one of Crafton City's loveliest recreation(娱乐)areas. Over 40 acres of woods and fields were open to the public. In the 1950s, part of the park was taken over by Crafton City's garbage. Fifteen acres were to be used for landfill disposal(理置). As time went on, more and more of the park was used for garage disposal and less for recreation. Two years ago, the park was closed to the public for good. Along with household garbage, industrial chemicals had for years been dumped (倾倒)in the Pinehaven landfill. These poisonous chemicals had begun to seep(渗)back up through the soil. All of Pinehaven Park had become dangerously polluted.
Last year, the fish in the Crafton River began to die. After a series of investigations(研究), it became clear that the people of Crafton City were not to blame. 100~150 miles upstream, big paper mills were dumping industrial wastes into the river. Little by little, the level of poison in the river began to rise. Finally, it became so polluted that the fish themselves could no longer survive.
Downtown Crafton used to be a quiet area. Ten years of remarkable growth changed that in a big hurry. But with Crafton City's new prosperity(繁荣)came a new problem: air pollution. And it is a serious problem. Air pollution levels in Crafton are regularly reaching those of the nation's large industrial cities.
