The media has a great effect on us in our daily life. Believe it or not. I will tell you a true story of my own.
Last evening I was watching the evening news on television. The news was about a prize for scientific 1 ; I forgot what it was. The announcer, whose name was Ralph Story, said something, that caught my 2 . ¡°All great discoveries, ¡±he said, ¡°are made by people between the ages of twenty-five and thirty. ¡± 3 a little over thirty myself, I wanted to disagree with him. 4 wants to think that he is past the age of making any discovery. The next day I happened to be in the public library and spent several hours looking up the 5 of famous people and their discoveries. Ralph was right.
First I looked at some of the 6 discoveries. One of the earliest discoveries, the famous experiment that proved that bodies of different 7 fall at the same speed, was made by Galileo when he was 26. Madam Curie started her research that 8 to a Nobel Prize when she was 28. Einstein was 26 when he published his world changing theory of relativity. Well, 9 of that. Yet. I 10 , if those¡°best years¡±were true in other 11 . How about the field of 12 ? Surely it needed the wisdom of age make a good leader. Perhaps it 13 , but look when these people 14 their career. Winston Churchill was elected to the House of Commons at the age of 26. Abraham Lincoln 15 the life of a country lawyer and was elected to the government at what age? Twenty-six.
But why 16 the best years come after thirty? After thirty, I 17 , most people do not want to take risks or try 18 ways. Then I thought of people like Shakespeare and Picasso. The former was writing wonderful works at the ripe age of fifty, while the latter was 19 trying new ways of painting when he was ninety!
Perhaps there is still 20 for me.

In the past, man did not have to think about the protection of his environment(»·¾³). There were few people on the earth, and natural resources seemed to be ¡¡¡¡1 .
Today things are ¡¡¡¡2 . The world has become too ¡¡¡¡3 . We are using up our natural resources too quickly, and at the same time we are ¡¡¡¡4 our environment with dangerous chemicals. If we ¡¡¡¡5 to do this, human life on the earth will not survive(ÐÒ´æ).
Everyone ¡¡¡¡6 today that if too many fishes are taken from the sea, there will soon be none left. Yet with modern fishing ¡¡¡¡7 , more and more fishes are caught. We know that if too many trees are cut down, ¡¡¡¡8 will disappear and nothing will grow on the land. Yet, we ¡¡¡¡9 to use bigger and more powerful machines to ¡¡¡¡10 more and more trees. We realize that if rivers are polluted with waste products from factories, we will die. ¡¡¡¡11 , in most countries, waste products are ¡¡¡¡12 put into rivers or into the sea, and there are ¡¡¡¡13 laws to stop this.
We know, too, that if the ¡¡¡¡14 of the world continues to rise at the present rate, in a few years, there will not be enough ¡¡¡¡15 . What can we do to solve(½â¾ö) these problems?
If we eat more vegetables and less 16 , there will be more food available(¿ÉµÃµ½µÄ) for everyone. Land that is used to grow crops ¡¡¡¡17 five times more people than land where animals are kept.
Our natural resources will ¡¡¡¡18 longer if we learn to recycle them.
The world population will not rise so quickly if people use modern methods of birth 19 .
Finally, if we educate people to think about the problems, we shall have a better and cleaner ¡¡¡¡20 in the future.

There have been many great inventions, which have changed the way we live. The first great invention was 1 that is still very important today¡ªthe wheel(ÂÖ×Ó). This made it easier to 2 heavy things and to travel long distances.
For hundreds of years after that there were few inventions that have as much 3 as the wheel. Then in the early 1800¡¯s the world started to 4 . There was little unknown land in the world. People did not 5 to explore any more. They began to work so as to
6 life better.
In the second half of the 19th century many great inventions were made. ¡¡¡¡7 them were the camera, the electric light and the radio. These all became a big 8 of our life today.
The first part of the 20th century saw more great 9 : the helicopter in 1909; movies with sound in 1926; the computer in 1928; and jet planes in 1930. This was also a time 10
a new material was first made. Nylon came 11 in 1935. It changed the 12 of clothes people had been wearing.
The middle part of the 20th century brought new ways to help people get over 13 .
They worked very well. They made people healthier and let them live 14 lives. By the 1960¡¯s most people could 15 to live at least 60.
By this time most people had a very good life. Of course new inventions 16 to be made. But man now had a desire to explore again. The world was ¡¡¡¡17 to man but the stars were not. Man began looking for ways to go into 18 . Russia made the first step. Then the United States took a step. Since then other countries, 19 China and Japan have made their steps into space.
In 1969 man took his biggest step away from the earth. Americans first walked on the moon. This is certainly just a ¡¡¡¡20 thought. New inventions will someday allow us to do things we have never dreamed of.

If you asked high school girls to name their favorite sports, most would probably say basketball or volleyball. I happen to be one of the few girls who would 1 :surfing(³åÀËÔ˶¯). But isn¡¯t that a boy thing? Some people 2 . Most certainly not.
I started surfing about five years ago and 3 in love with the sport on the very first day. Riding that first 4 was the best feeling I had ever experienced.
When I try to 5 surfing with other things, I find it very difficult because, in my
6 there¡¯s nothing like it. It involves(Ç£Éæµ½)body, ¡¡¡¡7 , and soul. There¡¯s sand between my toes and cool, salt water all 8 us. The feeling I get when I¡¯m surfing across that 9 , becoming one with the 10 , is like I¡¯m weightless.
The one thing I can 11 from surfing and not any other sport is endless challenge(ÌôÕ½). You can never be the ¡°best surfer¡± because the ocean 12 an uncountable variety of waves that nobody can ever master. The variations of surfing styles are wonderful. Some surfers are free and flowing; others are very aggressive(»îÔ¾ÓÐÁ¦µÄ)and ¡¡¡¡13 . All of these things attract me to surfing and make it 14 from any other sport.
I¡¯ve ¡¡¡¡15 to tell every girl I know to do something that people don¡¯t think girls can do. It's part of being human to advance to new 16 , so shouldn't it be expected that girls should step up and start 17 the limits of things boys and men used to dominate(Ö÷Ô×)?
There¡¯re women ¡¡¡¡18 side by side with the President of our country, so why not side by side with the boys 19 the football team or out in the water surfing? Give girls a chance to 20 , and they will.

If you judge by the number of people who go to see the games and by the number of 1

In spring and summer, the most popular game is baseball. During the warm weather you can see young men and boys playing the game in any part of the 8 . In the autumn, the most popular sport is football. ¡¡¡¡12 you know, this is not the same kind of game that is so popular in other parts of the world. ¡¡¡¡13 basketball and baseball, it is typically American, and 14 who have never seen it 15 have difficulty 16
