Dear David,

I'm very glad to introduce the Mid-Autumn Festival to you. It is one of the Chinese traditional festivals which has about two thousand years of history£®It falls on August 15th of the lunar calendar every year. That night, the moon looks round and brighter. People believe that the full moon is a symbol of reunion. And they often give best wishes to each other at this special time. On this day people usually go back home to get together, enjoying a large meal with their family. At night, they admire the full moon and share delicious mooncakes with their family. Besides, people also have a three-day holiday, so they can have a short trip to relax themselves.

How interesting the Mid-Autumn Festival is and I like it very much£®

Best wishes!

Yours,

Li Ming

¡¾ÌâÄ¿¡¿I'm Late For School

by Risha Ahmed

Oh, no. I'm late for school.

The alarm woke me up late in the morning.

Oh how could this happen?

I'm sure I had set the alarm right, I could have sworn(·¢ÊÄ).

I was supposed to wake up at seven.

But now it's nearly eight.

If I'm not on time my teacher will kill me.

Or else she will use me for fishing as bait.

In a total hustle bustle£¨Ã¦Âµ£©I tried to pack my bag.

Oh now where is my math book?

And then I also realized I had left my pencil box on the lawn.

Mom tried to stop me but I was too busy.

To hear what she had to say.

Without breakfast I ran to the bus stop .

Whilst the sun on me, cast its many a bright ray.

I stood there waiting for my bus.

Which always came at eight.

¡¾ÌâÄ¿¡¿ Every year on 15th October, over 200 million people around the world take part in Global Handwashing Day. But why do we have a day for something we do all the time? Well, research shows that not enough people often wash their hands with soap. Experts believe that this leads to the deaths of millions of people every year.

Sidibe, a public health expert says soap is the most beautiful invention in public health'. Washing your hands with soap can have a huge impact on reducing (¼õÉÙ) the spread of diseases. Handwashing with soap prevents babies from getting ill and keeps children healthy and in school.

However, washing hands with soap does not happen as often as you might think. This is partly because there aren't enough resources (×ÊÔ´) in poorer countries, but it's also because for many people, handwashing is simply not part of their everyday life. It's not easy to get people to change habits they learned in early childhood -- but this is what Global Handwashing Day wants to do.

In 2008, the Indian cricket team joined around 100 million Indian schoolchildren in washing their hands to promote (´Ù½ø) the first ever Global Handwashing Day. Every year since then, many different events have been held around the world. In 2014. Global Handwashing Day was used in the fight against Ebola, a very serious disease, with events held in affected (ÊܸÐȾµÄ) African countries.

Today, local and national leaders continue to use the day to spread the message about the importance of clean hands. The hope is that handwashing becomes a necessary part of people's lives and improves the health of millions around the world.

¡¾1¡¿Who started Global Handwashing Day?

A.Public health experts.B.The Indians.C.African schoolchildren.

¡¾2¡¿What does the underlined word "impact" mean?

A.Danger.B.Influence.C.Background.

¡¾3¡¿What's the main idea of the last paragraph?

A.Washing hands with soap is good for public health.

B.Washing hands with soap doesn't become part of people's lives.

C.People all over the world are encouraged to wash hands with soap.

¡¾4¡¿Which statement is NOT TRUE according to the passage?

A.A few people's unwillingness to wash hands with soap everyday lead to many people's death.

B.People in different countries join in Global Handwashing Day.

C.Global Handwashing Day's purpose is only wanting people to wash hands without soap.

¡¾5¡¿What would be the best title for the passage?

A.Learning to Use Soap.B.Changing Your HabitsC.Living a Healthy Life.

¡¾ÌâÄ¿¡¿ Coffee is a necessary part of Italian culture and since arriving here over six months ago, I have definitely drunk a lot of it!

Of course, coffee is also very popular in the UK but coffee culture in Italy is a completely different story. In Italy, when you order a coffee in a cafe or a bar, you are presented with a tiny, bitter espresso£¨ÕôÁ󿧷ȣ©. This is "normal coffee" for Italians and they are not so interested in the huge coffees that we drink in the UK. In addition, while take-away coffee is extremely popular among Englishmen, it is not very common at all in Italy especially in non-touristy areas. Generally, Italians prefer to drink their tiny coffees while standing at the bar and, for many, this short break is an important part of their day.

Typically, breakfast at a bar in Italy includes a coffee and a pastry£¨ÓÍËÖ¸âµã£©. I have been spoiled for choice with lovely cafes in the Italian town I'm living in these cafes sell a series of mouth-watering pastries-either plain or filled with cream, chocolate, jam or Nutella-as well as delicious coffee. Cappuccinos are very popular at breakfast time and, for me, a creamy cappuccino and a pastry is the perfect way to start the day. I think it's a nice way to head to bar to buy a coffee and a pastry for breakfast before working and it's relaxing to take more time to enjoy such breakfast at the weekend.

Finally, I have found that coffee in Italy is so much cheaper than coffee in the UK. Of course, this means that in Italy it is possible to go out for coffee regularly without breaking the bank.

¡¾1¡¿Which of the following do Italians like better?

A.Takeaway coffees.B.Huge coffees.

C.Creamy coffees.D.Tiny, bitter coffees

¡¾2¡¿What does the word "they" in Paragraph 2 refer to?

A.Italians.B.Britons.C.Coffees.D.Cafes.

¡¾3¡¿Why can the writer often go out for coffee in Italy?

A.Because coffee is a part of Italian culture.B.Because there are so many cafes or bars.

C.Because Italian pastries are very delicious.D.Because Italian coffee is very cheap.
