On the afternoon of June 24,1876, Alexander Graham Bell walked through the Centennial Fair Grounds (百年大庆商品交易会) at Fairmount Park in Philadelphia (费城). The bag that he carried seemed heavier than when he left Boston. But he did not trust(信任)sending his telephone model on ahead. He had had a long trip and had taken time for only a cup of tea and a piece of bread in the station. He knew he had to get to the Fair Office before it closed for the day. He had been told that the judges would look at his telephone on Sunday morning, which was the next day. At another time he might have paused (停留) to look at the strange buildings which he passed. There was the great hall built in the Morrish style (摩尔式)of iron(铁)and glass. And farther on were the Spanish and German and Portuguese buildings.
