It is believed that Egyptians drive on the right, although many choose to drive along the middle of the road. The most important and necessary part of an Egyptian driver’s car isn’t anything to do with how good, safe or fast the car is —it is the horn (喇叭)!
The horn is sounded to greet friends or to make camels or donkeys move along the street. These animals often cause problems when they are in front of the car. Sometimes, people who are selling small things around the car also cause trouble, so the drivers use the horn to tell them they are not welcome. All of these above reasons have one aim: to keep other road users out of the way. However, there are also some special cases. For example, people can use the horn to allow another road user onto the road, but this seldom happens. They do so only because they feel like it. They also use the horn to warn the poor traffic policeman. The drivers don’t slow down or stop, mostly because they can’t, even if they want to.
When visiting the capital, Cairo, you will find that it is a busy city, with lots of cars, motorbikes and pollution! It’s almost like a movie, people coming or going around the streets on bikes or cars driving all over the place. However, be careful when crossing a road because they do not stop for anyone.
