        Grammarphobia  is the fear of grammar. This fear attacks almost everybody at one time or another, and it's most likely to strike during English or language arts classes. Even people who love reading and writing
    have been known to get feverish and insecure when they are aware of the possibility of turning in
    homework with grammar or spelling mistakes. Though writing may be enjoyable, being corrected is
    definitely not!
         Grammarphobes, it's time to put your fears behind you.Grammar isn't that dreadful (可怕的). Here's
    why. 
         Let's assume you like hearing and telling stories and that you enjoy joking with friends. You probably
    also like emailing and instantmessaging.  Well, what do you think makes all these possible? Grammar!
         Grammar is simply the art of putting words together to make sentences. Whenever you use words to
    express yourself, you're using grammar. You do this all the time without even thinking.
         So why think about it? Because good grammar helps you convey the ideas you intend. If your words
    aren't right, or if they are not in the right order, the person you are talking to might get the wrong idea. This can have embarrassing results.
         Grammar helps us understand each other.  It's like a manual (手册) for assembling the words in your head. You have to put your words together the right way if you want them to make sense. They can't do
    what you want if they aren't put together correctly.
         What if everybody you know had a different manual? How would you agree on what others' words
    mean? People with different grammar manuals might be speaking different languages.
         Communicating is similar to playing cards.  To make sense, we have to play the same game, by the
    same rules. What are the rules for playing the game of English? You already know most of them without
    having to open a book.

         So much to do, so little time. So much information, so little time to read it. In this age there is more
    information than ever before. There is not enough time to read everything we want to read. However, you can consume more information in shorter time through speed-reading. This article will not make you read. 3,000 words per minute, but it will show you how to increase your speed significantly. You will also learn
    the basic techniques of speed-reading, along with the dos and don'ts of speed-reading.
         When you first learned to read, you would say the word out loud and sound it out. Then you might
    whisper the word because people can become annoyed when you read aloud. The stage you are now at is saying the word in your head. Most people tend to read this way. Saying the word in your head will cut
    your reading speed tremendously (极大地).
         How do you calculate your reading speed? The speed is measured by how many words per minute you can read. Get some reading material, preferably a book. Find out how many words are on the page. Time yourself for one minute. Start your timer and start reading. When the timer beeps, stop. If you counted 500 words on the page and you read half of the page, and then you are probably reading at 250 words per
    minute.
         The first thing about speed-reading is looking at the word and recognizing it. Don't say the word in your mind, just look at it and recognize its importance. Later you will recognize clumps of four words or more to increase your speed. This is the first and most important step in speed-reading.
         The next step is technique. As with any other skill, speed-reading requires technique. You should first
    be sitting up straight with your book flat on a horizontal (水平的) surface, such as a table or desk. Next,
    you should be able to see the entire page. This is necessary if you want to recognize clumps of words. Lastly, you should be focused. It's hard to read with a lot of noise. Find a quiet place to read. This will help
    your understanding of the text.
         You need something to guide your eyes while reading. That's right, you should use your hand.
    Remember when you were little, you would read using your finger. That is a great technique, only now
    you're using your hand to underline each line. Move your finger smoothly across the page. No need to go
    rush, start out slow. Keep your eyes focused on the words as you recognize them while using your hand
    as a guide. This will increase your speed.
         The third step is practice. Practice makes perfect. Set time interval (间歇) .Read using different
    techniques, but make sure you understand what you're reading.

         If I could select a word that best describes the majority of American parents, that word
    would be guilt-ridden (内疚的). How sad it is to see parents become the willing victims
    of the "give me game", only to discover that, no matter what they do, it isn't enough. In the

    vacation. If they want to do it, it must be considered a favour, not an obligation.
         In my opinion, parents do not owe their children an inheritance, no matter how much
    money they have. One of the surest ways to produce a loafer is to let children know that
    their future is assured.
         Do parents owe their children anything? Yes, they owe them a great deal.
         One of their chief obligations is to give their children a sense of personal worth, for
    self-esteem is the basis of a good mental health. Parents owe their children firm guidance
    and consistent discipline. Parents owe their children privacy and respect for their personal
    belongings.
         No child asks to be born. If you bring a life into the world, you owe the children something.
    And if you give him his due, he'll have something of value to pass along to your grandchildren.

         Faced with a tough job market, fresh graduates are dreaming of running their own businesses instead.
    But a recent survey has showed that such ambitions lack the required support and remain just that-dreams.
    The Shanghai Municipal Employment Promotion Centre poll of 1,276 graduates in several universities and colleges in the city, released last Friday, showed 59.78 percent of respondents considered the possibility
    of setting up a company or at least a small store. "But they just stop at the 'thinking stage'," it stated.
         Respondents put the top reasons for not going it alone down to a shortage of investment and a lack of
    business opportunity. They also listed lack of business experience and social networks, the need for
    advanced study and objections from family members as factors that stood in their way.
         More than 90 percent of the interviewees said they would rather take up a job after graduating and then consider starting their own business two or three years down the road.
    Guo Bin, a senior student in Shanghai International Studies University majoring in English, decided he
    wanted to be his own boss last year. But he is looking for a job first. "If I fail to find a satisfying job, I
    would like to establish a company in exhibition services," Guo said.
         The Shanghai native has some relatives working in a local printing plant. With their help, Guo hopes to produce exhibition brochures at a relatively low price. He is also confident that his English language skills
    can help him do well in the industry.
         "Social networking is an important factor leading to business success," Guo said.
         Guo said that the shortage of graduate jobs is the main reason driving more university students to set up a business right after their graduation.
        Jiang said the university sets up a business guide team made of government officials and prof essionals.
    They regularly give training courses to students who show an interest in having their own business. The
    parents of university graduates are more willing to help their children start up alone. The survey showed "

    shocking increases in events such as World War II. This time, the improvement came from a sharp decline that
    has been cruel on male-controlled professions such as construction and manufacturing.
         The only growing parts of the economy like health care, education and government have traditionally hired
    mostly women. This kind of control has increased in the past because the money added by government has been
    usually directed to education, health care and state and local government offices.
         The increased number in local government's 14.6 million-person workforce is especially remarkable. Cities,
    schools, water authorities and other government offices have cut 86,000 men from payrolls (工资名单) during
    the decline, while adding 167,000 women, according to the research report.

    about all sorts of other disorders, causing one research team to warn that a large amount of incomplete,
    inaccurate and even dangerous information exists on the Internet.
         The problem is most people don't know the safe way to surf the Web. "They use a search engine like
    Google, get 18 trillion choices and start clicking. But that's risky, because almost anybody can put up a site
