14.他在一些无关紧要的事上花费太多时间,导致了整个项目的失败.(lead to)He spent too much time on some unimportant things/(in) doing what was unimportant, which led to the failure of the whole project.
He wasted too much time dealing with some unimportant things, leading to the failure of the whole project..

分析 He spent too much time on some unimportant things/(in) doing what was unimportant, which led to the failure of the whole project.
He wasted too much time dealing with some unimportant things, leading to the failure of the whole project.

解答 He spent too much time on some unimportant things/(in) doing what was unimportant, which led to the failure of the whole project.
He wasted too much time dealing with some unimportant things, leading to the failure of the whole project.
根据句意"导致了整个项目的失败"可知,是对过去事实的描述,所以用一般过去时.
本句可使用which引导的非限制性定语从句,what引导的为一宾语从句what was unimportant,作动词do的宾语;也可以使用现在分词短语作结果状语.spend time on sth或者spend time in doing sth花费时间(做)某事;lead to导致.

点评 合理使用定语从句或者非谓语动词能够生动灵活地表达句子,使得句式更标准、地道.
