    Meanwhile, 30% of the students think it necessary for students to have cell phones. They say they can use them to stay in touch with their parents. But they also pointed out that they must not turn them on in class, and must never use them to do what they should not do.
    As for me, I am on the first group of the students. And what’s your opinion?

    An elderly carpenter（木匠） was ready to retire．He told his employer of his plans to leave the house-building business and live a more leisurely life with his wife enjoying his extended family．He would miss the paycheck, but he needed to retire．They could get by．
    The employer was sorry to see his good worker go and asked if he could build just one more house as a personal favor．The carpenter said yes, but in time it was easy to see that his heart was not in his work．He resorted to（采用） poor workmanship(工艺，手艺) and used inferior（低劣的） materials．It was an unfortunate way to end a dedicated career．
    When the carpenter finished his work, the employer came to inspect the house．He handed the front-door key to the carpenter．"This is your house," he said, "my gift to you．"
    The carpenter was shocked! What a shame! If he had only known he was building his own house, he would have done it all so differently．

    “Depend on yourself”is what nature says to everyone. Parents can help you. Teachers can help you. Others still can help you. But all these only help you to help yourself.
    There have been great men in history. But many of them were very poor in childhoods and no uncles, aunts or friends to help them. Schools were few and not very good. They could not depend upon them for an education. They saw how it was, and set to work with all their strength to know something. They worked their own way up to fame.
    One of the most famous teachers in England used to tell his pupils. “I can not make worthy men of you but I can help you make men of yourself.”
    But some young men tend to totally depend on others to help them out. They can never achieve much unless they see their weak points and change their course. They are nothing now, and will be nothing as long as they live, unless they accept the advice of their parents and teachers and depend on their own honest efforts.
