    Rubbing mosquito repellents（驱蚊剂）on exposed skin keeps the insects away for a time．Studies show that those containing DEET are most effective．Depending on the brand of repellent，the chemical keeps mosquitoes away for 5to 13hours．Some plant oils can be used instead of DEET，but they require more frequent application-every two hours-and in greater concentrations．Oils such as lemon eucalyptus or citronella are two possibilities．
    Another chemical，permethrin，can be applied to clothing to ward off mosquitoes．The chemical sticks to the fabric and will last through a few washings．Clothing that has been factory-treated with the chemical is also available．The manufactures say that it will remain the permethrin for about 70 washings．
    Mosquito coil（圈，卷）also keep mosquitoes away．However，the smoke from them pollutes and can damage the lungs，so they should be used with care．
