April 23rd is World Reading Day, this reminds us of the importance of reading. We are supposed to read more in that special day. But the situation for we to read nowadays is not satisfying.

For example, when we are at home, we would rather to watch TV or go on the Internet than read books. As a result, we spend such little time on books. However, reading books have many advantages. Not only can our abilities and skills be improving, but also we can get some information from reading. Beside, reading can bring us happiness.

I think it good habit that in our spare times we read more books of great use.

A primary school in Wuhan has used new desks and chairs to prevent students from getting short sight. The desks and chairs make students have the correct posture, especially when reading and writing. Each desk has an adjustable steel bar. The bar can help students keep their eyes at least 30cm from books.

Zhang Jianming is headmaster of the primary school. She said the new desks and chairs were provided by an eye care centre in the city. The school carried out a survey last September. It showed that about 7 percent of its 1,093 students said they suffered from short sight.

The new desks and chairs have already improved the students’ posture, but both teachers and students might need more time to get used to them.

Yang Lihua is head of the Wuhan Youth Eye Care Center. This is because parents are teaching their children to read and write at a very early age without paying enough attention to their posture,” she said.

Feng Junying is a doctor at Beijing Jingshan School. “I think the new desks and chairs in Wuhan will certainly be helpful,” she said. “But bad reading habits at school are not the only reason for short sight. We can make mistakes at any age. Some mistakes we make are about money, but most mistakes are about people. “Did Jerry really care when I broke up with Helen?” “When I got that great job, did Jim really feel good about it, as a friend? Or did he envy my luck?” When we look back, doubts like these can make us feel bad. But when we look back, it’s too late.

Why did we go wrong about our friends or our enemies? Sometimes what people say hides their real meaning. And if we don’t really listen, we miss the feeling behind the words. Suppose someone tells you, “You’re a lucky dog.” Is he really on your side? If he says, “You’re a lucky guy” or “You’re a lucky gal”, that’s being friendly. But “lucky dog”? There’s a bit of envy in those words. Maybe he doesn’t see it himself. But bringing in the “dog” bit puts you down a little. What he may be saying is that he doesn’t think you deserve your luck.

“Just think of all the things you have to be thankful for” is another noise that says one thing and means another. It could mean that the speaker is trying to get you to see your problem as part of your life as a whole. But is he? Being wrapped(包裹)up in this expression is the thought that your problem isn’t important. It’s telling you to think of all the starving people in the world when you haven’t got a date for Saturday night.

How can you tell the real meaning behind someone’s words? One way is to take a good look at the person talking. Do his words fit the way he looks? Does what he says consist with the tone of voice? His posture? The look in his eyes? Stop and think. The minute you spend thinking about the real meaning of what people say to you may save another mistake.

1.When recalling(回忆)things that have happened between our friends and us, we may .

A. feel good to have friends standing by us

B. think it was a mistake to view some people as friends

C. misread some of our friends’ true feelings

D. keep looking back to find mistakes we’ve made

2.By saying “You’re a lucky dog,” the speaker .

A. is just being friendly

B. expresses the same meaning as “You’re a lucky guy”

C. may have a hidden envious feeling

D. intends to put the listener down

3.In listening to a person, the important thing is .

A. to listen carefully to how he utters his words

B. to observe his tone, his posture, and his clothes

C. to stop for a while and decide whether to believe him

D. to check his words against his manner, tone and posture

4.This passage tries to tell you how to .

A. avoid mistakes in understanding what people tell you

B. say things appropriately to avoid mistakes

C. keep people always faithful to you

D. avoid regret about making mistakes

首先请阅读下列图片及文字说明:

A. Drop-Bar Road Bikes

Generally lighter in weight than the typical mountain or comfort bike, road bikes are good for multiple pavement uses including fitness riding,commuting,long-distance/event rides, touring and racing.

Drop-bar handlebars are lightweight and aerodynamic and are a better choice if you want to go faster or are more concerned with efficiently transferring your energy into making the bike move forward. They also allow for a greater number of riding and hand positions than flat-bars.Their more aerodynamic riding position (bent over at the waist) may put more strain on your back if you are less flexible.

B. Flat-Bar Road Bikes

Flat-bar handlebars combine the efficiency of drop-bar road bikes with a slightly more upright riding position. This allows you to sit up in a higher and more relaxed position so you can better see the road and potential risks. An upright position also reduces strain on your hands, wrists and shoulders. This increased versatility comes with the tradeoff of being slightly less efficient (from an aerodynamic standpoint) than the typical drop-bar road bike.

C. Hardtail Mountain Bikes

Mountain Bikes are best for dirt or rocky trails and gravel roads; they are OK for pavement too (with tire change).

Hardtail bikes feature a front suspension fork and a rigid back with no rear suspension shocks. This type of mountain bike is much less expensive and lighter in weight than a typical full-suspension mountain bike.A hardtail is the more versatile choice if you plan to use it for both paved and unpaved surfaces. The tradeoffs from a full-suspension mountain bike? A hardtail is less able to safely handle more technical singletrack trails, provides less overall shock absorption and,in some situations, delivers less rear wheel traction.

D. Full-Suspension Mountain Bikes

Full-suspension mountain bikes have both front and rear suspension shocks making them ideal for backcountry trails or technical (steep, bumpy, twisty) singletrack. They also stand up to more aggressive riding including jumps or drops of up to 5 feet.As mentioned above,full-suspension bikes are more expensive and generally heavier than hardtail bikes.

E.Folding bikes

These bikes can be folded up and placed in a carrying bag, which makes them handy for commuters with limited storage space at home or the office. They are lightweight yet strong and can be folded up quickly and easily.Folding bikes are also a good choice for those who want to travel with their bike.

F.Electric-assist bikes

These bikes feature a battery-powered motor that can help you climb hills easily or make your commute less strenuous.Built-in sensors can monitor how much pressure you're putting on the pedals and then apply battery power accordingly.

以下是一些用户信息,请把图片与相关介绍匹配起来。

1.Tom is a bike lover. He wants to buy a road bike that can go fast on the road. Speed is important but it is more important for him to see the road and stay safe, since the road on which he rides is often full of traffic.

2.Jack is an office worker.Every day he goes to work by subway. There is still a long way from where he lives to the subway station,so he decides to buy a bike, which can be easily put at home,on the subway train and his office.

3.Peter loves making long-distance journey by bike. When travelling,he has to climb hills or ride on rocky trails, which makes him too tired to go.He wants to continue his journey even when he is tired, but he doesn’t want to travel by car or ride his motorbike.

4.Mark is a bike enthusiast who often rides in the mountainous areas.Unfortunately, his bike was damaged when he was riding on the mountain. Now he is going to buy a new mountain bike.Being a rich man,Mark doesn’t care about the price of the bike, but it must be tough and flexible enough to jump and drop on the mountain road.

5.Jim needs a new mountain bike that can be ridden on both paved and unpaved surfaces. It doesn’t need to be too expensive. He hopes to buy a bike that is lighter in weight than a typical full-suspension mountain bike
