the writer's full name, address and telephone number, although the information is not necessary for publication.
This requirement to provide personal particulars is a clear indication that writers are held responsible for what
they say. When a writer wants his voice heard, he needs to claim ownership of his voice. Responsibility is the
name of the game.
     "People today prefer living together to putting their signatures on a marriage certificate because they refuse
to accept responsibility for the relationship," said social worker Ken Yip, "and this is what is causing a lot of
family problems." When we sign a paper, for example, a business contract or a bank document, the signature
is symbol of consent, an agreement to take the matter seriously. Most governments and many organizations
will not process writer's complaints if they do not bear the writer's signature. The absence of a signature, they
explain, tells us that the writer cannot be too serious and therefore does not deserve a reply.
     There are people who wish to remain anonymous (匿名的) for various reasons. Multi-billionaire Mr. King
donates generously to charity several times a year. He gives simply because he wants to help but not for the
publicity his donations may bring, and he does not want his good deeds to make news. In other cases, people
insist on anonymity because they are afraid of the consequences of revealing their identity. Crime witnesses
may be willing to assist the police, but most are unwilling to give their names when reporting a crime.
     Name or no name? The answer is very personal and lies in how much we want to get involved. We all have
a name, it is a matter if responsibility to it when we make a statement, a claim or an accusation. We all want
to honour our own name, and it is only by stamping our expression of an opinion with our own name that we
honour what we say.

     I'm a 21yearold boy, and this is my story.
     A month after I graduated from high school in 2004, I was coming home from swim practice and was
involved in a car accident.I was so seriously injured that I was in a coma (昏迷) for over two months at
Prince Georges Hospital.
      I died eight times during my coma and I couldn't talk or communicate when I woke up.Walking was
never going to happen again due to all the extreme injuries.Just like my body, my dreams were shattered  (破灭). But I was not going to let my injuries stop me from living my dream.
      After 14 operations and 36 blood transfusions, I had to learn how to talk, eat, walk, shower, and live
independently again.When I was out of hospital, I still had to go to outpatient therapy (门诊治疗) in
Waldorf, Maryland.After spending a few months in a wheelchair, I took baby  steps to walk on my own.
It was a miracle (奇迹) that I  could walk again, but I wanted to prove that I could not  only walk, but

the pool a little bit each week.After a few months  of swim training, I began my freshman year at St.Mary's College of   Maryland and became a proud member of the swim team.

     I'm usually fairly skeptical about any research that concludes that people are either happier or
unhappier or more or less certain of themselves than they were 50 years ago. While any of these
statements might be true, they are practically impossible to prove scientifically. Still, I was struck by
a report which concluded that today's children are significantly more anxious than children in the
1950s. In fact, the analysis showed, normal children aged 9 to 17 exhibit a higher level of anxiety
today than children who were treated for mental illness 50 years ago.
     Why are America's kids so stressed? The report cites two main causes: increasing physical

Your family will thank you later. They will have more time for facetoface relationships, and they will
get more sleep.

games and movies; children see a lot of murder and crime on the local news.
     Keep your expectations for your children reasonable. Many highly successful people never attended
