    Time flies! It is almost a year when I came to study in No. 1 Middle School. I remember when I first come to the school, everything was new to me. Now I have used to everything here and like my school very much. Asked how I like it so much. I’d like to let you to know I have good teachers as well as a good atmosphere to study in. My school has a long history. Three years ago, it celebrated their 100th anniversary. In recent years, great changes have taken place. Each classroom has been equipped with new multimedia equipments, which makes it possible for teachers to teach efficiently and students to learn easy. In the years to come, a new branch school will be on construction in the western area of the city, which is said to be completing by September in 2018, when it will have a better condition to welcome more students to receive a good education.

    It is known to us all, different people have different hobby. For me, what we enjoy most is painting.

    When I was very young, I began to show my great interest in painting. My parents sent me learn from a famous painter. With a help of the painter, my painting skills improved quickly and a lot. By the age of 17, I took part in a painting competition in our city and win the first prize.

    Since then, I have taken part in all kinds of competitions and won many prizes. I have become a well-known figure out in our city. What’s more, it is these competitions which have make me more confidently in overcoming the difficulties in my life.

It’s since grown into a week-long annual event that draws more than 48,000 people to the Black Rock Dessert. It is held during the week before Labor Day. Participants set up camp in the desert to celebrate art.

    Songkran, Thailand

    This festival marks the Thai New Year, which is celebrated in the second week of April. This is the hottest time of the year in Thailand, so it makes sense that the biggest Songkran tradition is to throw water on people. Thais of all ages join in water fights, using buckets, hoses and water guns to celebrate the event.

    Many people write to newspaper and magazines to express their opinions. Letters to the editor must carry the writer’s full name, address and telephone number, although the information is not necessary for publication. This requirement to provide personal particulars is a clear indication that writers are held responsible for what they say. When a writer wants his voice heard, he needs to claim ownership of his voice. Responsibility is the name of the game.

    “People today prefer living together to putting their signatures on a marriage certificate because they refuse to accept responsibility for the relationship,” said social worker Ken Yip, “and this is what is causing a lot of family problems.” When we sign a paper, for example, a business contract or a bank document, the signature is a seal of consent, an agreement to take the matter seriously. Most governments and many organizations will not process written complaints if they do not bear the writer’s signature. The absence of a signature, they explain, tells us that the writer cannot be too serious and therefore does not deserve a reply.

    There are people who wish to remain anonymous（匿名的）for various reasons. Multi-billionaire Mr. King donates generously to charity several times a year. He gives simply because he wants to help but not for the publicity his donations may bring, and he does not want his good deeds to make news. In other cases, people insist on anonymity because they are afraid of the consequences of revealing their identity. Crime witnesses may be willing to assist the police, but most are unwilling to give their names when reporting a crime.

    I’ve been really lucky this year. Not only did I have the opportunity to live in France, but I was able to see some other countries with my girlfriend. Now she is studying in Essen, a large city in Western Germany. I recently went to stay with her-----it was my first visit to Germany! Essen is a very large city. It has all the conveniences of any large city so I felt immediately at home. I love the variety of shops, restaurants, shopping malls, cocktail bars, nightclubs, parks and even a lake.     I found the people to be really friendly, and most Germans speak very good English which made life easy for me. My girlfriend and I visited two famous local cities, Dǘsseldorf and Cologne, which are both on the Rhine River. Dǘsseldorf is an urban metropolis with a great variety of restaurants. We took a boat tour on the river and went up the Rhine tower, a really tall building which offers great views across the city. Cologne, as you might know, is world famous for its perfumes. The cathedral there is an unmissable landmark. We made the effort to climb to the top of one of the cathedral’s tower. The spiral(螺旋的) stairs seemed endless, but it was worthwhile for the impressive sights from the top.

    We also went in a cable car over the river and tasted a German delicacy called “Spaghettieis” which is ice cream with strawberry sauce! I also got to try the famous German sausage. I must admit, I really enjoyed the food! The only disappointment was the grey and rainy weather, which proves that Britain does not have the worst weather in Europe!
