Now I’m concerned about the safe of online payment, and rules and regulations needed to be improved to guarantee its operation.

Best wishes.

Coral reefs(珊瑚礁) are not just beautiful to look at,but also very useful. They shelter nearly 25% of ocean life and provide food for billions of people. However, like many other species, this amazing ecosystem(生态系统) is in danger of dying out!

There are two main reasons for the destruction—the rising carbon dioxide levels caused by global warming as well as human influences like bottom operation. While not much can be done about the former, the loss caused by the latter can be reduced.

Bottom operation involves dropping nets to the ocean bed and then dragging them up when filled with fish. This action damaged the ocean floor, causing the coral branches to separate from the reefs. While that is very discouraging, the good news is that if these branches are found quickly, they can be saved. At present, that work is being performed by volunteer divers. But the method has only limited success because they cannot stay long underwater, nor reach depths of over 200 meters where some of the deep-sea coral grows.

However, this is not the case for Coralbots—the robots that can constantly seek out broken branches.A team of ‘coral bots’,each individually working to simple rules will piece together damaged bits of coral, allowing them to regrow. They are programmed to be able to distinguish between other things and the coral. The robots work together in groups, similar to bees.If one coralbot is damaged, then the others will still be able to complete the task.

Dr Lea-Anne Henry said:“The project of using coralbots offers us the possibility to restore(修复) the function of reefs. It is in the final stage of testing.Once ready, the researchers hope to build hundreds of them and use them effectively in the waters off Scotland and then hopefully in the oceans across the world.”

1.Which of the following is a cause of the danger that coral reefs are facing?

A.The appearance of new creatures.

B.The seriously polluted sea water.

C.The activities of volunteer divers.

D.Human activities like bottom operation.

2.Compared with volunteer divers,coralbots ________.

A.can stay longer underwater

B.must work as bees do

C.can distinguish what is coral

D.can never be damaged

3.What does the underlined word“them”in the last paragraph refer to?

A.Coralbots.B.Broken branches.

C.working bees.D.Bits of coral.

4.We can infer from the passage that ________.

A.bottom operation has affected most underwater creatures

B.broken branches of coral can regrow if saved in time

C.hundreds of the coralbots have worked well in the oceans

D.with the coralbots all damaged coral reefs can be restored

In eighth grade, I decided to try out for my school musical. I only made it through the first verse(节) before the drama teacher stopped me. It goes without saying that my Christmas song didn’t get me any role.

Am I embarrassed? NO. Not just because it was ten years ago, but also because it’s such a great story to share. Why? I think the main reason is that admitting mistakes makes you easier to relate to. Interestingly enough, science confirms this theory.

Researchers have conducted many studies and have concluded that when someone makes a mistake or acts in a clumsy way, they are found to be more likeable. In other words, if you’re able to do well and then you mess up, it shows your human side. This allows others to connect and relate to you, which in turn makes them like you more.

Growing up, I was type of student who had to get straight A’s and the type of athlete who always had to perform at the top of the game. The problem was that my standards were so ridiculously high that I was never happy. It was only when I learned to let go and forgive myself for my mistakes that I truly felt relaxed.

When one of your close friends or family members makes a mistake, are you quick to forgive and forget? Sadly, many of us often express more sympathy for others than ourselves. With each mistake coming a lesson, you will be better equipped to handle life’s challenges going forward.

More importantly, if you are always worried about looking silly, you will never be able to get improved. Even if you make a fool of yourself, it isn’t the end of the world. Think about it: What’s the worst that can happen? In many cases, the reward often outweighs the risk.

1.By writing the passage, the author wants to tell us ________.

A. it is time to forgive others

B. everyone may make mistakes

C. it’s okay to make mistakes

D. what can be done to forgive our mistakes

2.What does the underlined part “this theory” probably refer to?

A. A mistake makes you more likeable.

B. An embarrassed person tends to act clumsily.

C. People mess up in life at times.

D. It’s good to share a great story with others

3.According to the passage, we know the author ________.

A. is pleased with her hard work

B. was once a person who wants things to be perfect

C. was happy with her high standard

D. never forgives herself for the mistakes she made

4.What message is delivered in the last two paragraphs?

A. Making a fool of yourself.

B. Viewing mistakes as learning opportunities.

C. Admitting mistakes is risky.

D. People tend to feel sorry for themselves.

To the mom I used to be:

Two years ago, you were happy and whole. You had a plan for life — start a new business, get involved in the Parent-teacher Association, teach your sons how to ride bicycles, spend as much time with your friends and parents as possible, watch your children mature and grow old with your husband. You were a “glass half full” person who often felt so much joy. You always looked forward, smiled and danced.

Two years ago, on December 14, 2012, the world changed and you changed with it. Disturbed young men with access to high-powered guns went to your sons’ school and killed six educators and twenty first-graders. Your eldest son Jake survived, but was changed by the day he discovered some monsters are real. He describes it as the day “when evils came to my school.” Your youngest son, Dylan, whom you thought of as a pure love, with his charming eyes and infectious giggle(微笑),was killed. Shot multiple times, he died instantly in the arms of his special-education assistant who also died while trying to protect him.

The tragedy changed all your life, not only because of losing your child, but because of the hole inside you that can never be filled. Your eldest son has been forced to grow up too fast because of the loss of his brother. The pain has altered the lines on your husband’s face. The way you look at the world has changed. Your interactions with friends and family seem foreign.

… …

But the things have moved on with hopefulness. You are now someone far more realistic. You control your feelings because you fear if you really let it out, you would never recover. It would destroy you. You know what you should do is try everything to protect more children. You’re fighting a good fight, what the whole society really needs.

With love,

Nicole Hockley, Dylan’s mom

A. might have some mental disability

BEIJING — The launch of a new manned space mission brings China closer to the establishment of a permanent space station, international experts say.

Chinese taikonauts, Jing Haipeng, 50, and Chen Dong, 37, were blasted off into space onboard Shenzhou-11 at 7:30 am Monday and will spend 30 days in the Chinese space laboratory Tiangong-2.The launch marks a key step toward China's plan to eventually operate a permanent space station. The successful launch of the Shenzhou-11 spacecraft is another step forward to put China among leading players in space technology, said Alexander Zheleznyakov, a Russian expert on history of space flights. China's experimental space lab will help provide solutions for spacecraft of different functions to approach and anchor, and for a long-term operation of life support system, said Zheleznyakov. Shenzhou-11 is scheduled to anchor on Wednesday with Tiangong-2, which is part of China's plan to build a permanent space station by 2022.

China can now test technologies for cargo spacecraft anchoring, life support system operation and water recycling to ensure a long-term continuous operation of its space station in the future with less dependence on renewal from the Earth, he said. If all goes well, China will launch the unpiloted Tianzhou-1 cargo ship next spring to autonomously tie up with Tiangong-2. Tianzhou-1 will be capable of automatically transferring rocket fuels, a vital requirement for space station grouping and maintenance, according to a report by Columbia Broadcasting System (CBS).

"That will further their anchoring abilities needed for the larger space station," Johnson Freese was quoted." Tiangong-2 is supposed to be able to stay in orbit for two years or longer, so that's taking them (Chinese) really close to 2019 or so. I think this will be their last big technology test phase before going to their large space station," said Freese.

1.Why did China launch Shenzhou-11 into space?

A. To improve its launching ability.

B. To show off its space progress.

C. To set up a permanent space station.

D. To replace the space lab Tiankong-2.

2.Which of the following is designed to automatically transfer rocket fuels?

A. Shenzhou-11.B. Tiangong-2.

C. Shenzhou-1.D. Tianzhou-1.

3.Which of the following can replace the underlined phrase “blasted off” in last paragraph?

A. sent upB. gave away

C. swept offD. carried away
