As more women in the United States move up the professional ladder, more are finding it necessary to make business trips alone. Since this is new for many, some trips are certainly in order. If you are married, it is a good idea to encourage your husband and children to learn to cook a few simple meals while you are away. They will be much happier and probably enjoy the experience. If you will be eating alone a good meal, choose good restaurants. In the end, they will be much better for your digestion (消化). You may also find it useful to call the restaurant in advance and state that you will be eating alone. You will probably get better service and almost certainly a better table. Finally, and most importantly, anticipate (提前做准备) your travel needs as a businesswoman; this starts with lightweight luggage which you can easily manage even when fully packed. Take a folding (折叠) case inside your suitcase; it will come in extremely handy (极其方便) for dirty clothes, as well as for business documents and papers you no longer need on the trip. Bats are the only flying mammals (哺乳动物)in the world. They can't see very well, but they have no trouble flying on the darkest nights and catching the insects (昆虫)that they eat. How do bats manage to fly by radar (雷达)?

The bats radar system (系统) works the same as the one the ships and planes use, like the radio signals that bounce (反射) back when they hit an object.

As a bat flies through the air, he sends out of series (系列) of sounds, thirty to sixty per second. The sound can't be heard by the human ear. If the sounds hit an object, these returned sound signals tell the bat where the object is.

Tom Dyson tried to find out what his new machine could do. One day he fixed the small box to a flowering plant that was growing in a pot. He didn't say anything at all, but he began to think some cruel thoughts.

“I'm going to cut off these flowers. They're getting old and ugly. So I'll cut them off…”

The needle on the machine climbed quickly from zero to 8, then 10, 12, 15. It stopped at 17. The plant was in trouble! Something was worrying it. Was it fear or sadness? The thought of being cut? The flowers bent their heads. They suddenly looked old and tired, and Tom felt sorry for them.
