This summer I worked as a volunteer for the Shanghai Expo. Now the Expo has lowered

its curtain successfully, but one of my experiences during the Expo has been disturbing me a lot.

It was a sunny Saturday noon and many visitors are having lunch on the grassland. I saw a foreign couple and a Chinese couple who had just finished their lunch. Without any hesitation, the Chinese couple threw their leftover food and the plastic bags on the grass.

Astonished and shocked, the foreign couple said,“It’s no good to damage the environment by littering carelessly.”

I want to say something on behalf of my classmates about the food and water shortages being experienced in many parts of the world.

What should be done to deal with the problem? On the one hand, we should focus on environmental protection and improve our treatment of precious, non-renewable resources. On the other hand, strict measures should be taken to protect farmland. At the same time, of course, developed countries should accept the fact that they have a responsibility to help the poorer ones that are experiencing food shortages.
