Turning Waste in to Energy

Every day rubbish could provide a valuable source of energy thanks to a clever new invention. Smelly methane(沼气)gas expelled from land fill sites containing tones of rotting house hold waste that could be used to produce a valuable energy resource. In Europe a lone land fill tips can produce 94 billion cubic meters of methane per ear, but currently only one percent of what could be a valuable source of energy is used, the rest is burnt off to prevent an explosive build-up of gas.

Methane gas forms when organic matter breaks down and is drawn off from large rubbish tips by pipes sunk into the middle of the waste. Until now this process wasn’t possible on small sites because the pipes allowed oxygen to seep(渗入)in and that stopped the break down process.

Viktor Popov of the Wessex Institute of Technology has now developed a system to modify exist in gland fill sites by making them airtight while the methane is extracted from sunken wells. The site is covered by a special three-layered skin whose two outer layers are made of clay with a pressurized layer of carbon dioxide gas in the middle. As the methane is sucked out through a central well, it is replaced by carbon dioxide from the middle layer rather than oxygen, allowing the break down process to continue.

Unfortunately, there are no plans to use the power of methane even though Popov claims his invention could provide a valuable source of energy over the next 20 years.

Regular singing is more like speaking, and it’s a lot softer. Ever since she started piano lessons at the age often, Carol has loved music. As she got older, she decided to become a music teacher. When she went to college, she took singing lessons as part of her studies. Her voice teacher discovered that nineteen-year-old Carol had an exceptionally beautiful soprano voice-the highest singing voice for women.

Carol decided to make opera her goal, not only because she loved to sing but also because she loved the drama. Opera is a play in which the characters sing the words instead of speaking them. The stories of opera can be tragic or comical. They can be personal stories about two people falling in love or grand stories about kings and queens who lived long ago. As the characters in an opera sing, thee motions expressed by words and music come to life.
