    I was glad he had found new friends but a little worried about the type of people who might be traveling in a carnival．"Oh，Mom，these are just normal everyday people like anyone else．They just work at a carnival instead of in a store or something"．"Come down tomorrow and meet them yourself，"he said．
    So the next day I went to the carnival and to the exhibit he had directed me to．The twin brothers turned out to be Siamese （连体的） twins，joined at the chest．He hadn't thought this fact was noteworthy（重要的） enough to mention．When I brought it to him，he said，"Yes，I noticed that too．Do you know that their mom has to make all their clothes because it's so difficult to find anything to fit them？They're also really good cooks．Today，Joe，the one on the right，made me spaghetti （意大利面条） for lunch．"
    What others see first in a person is not what a child considers important．Where I saw Siamese twins，he saw people having difficulty buying clothes that fit，and young men who were good cooks．It was a lesson I have thought about many times over the years．

    He had put up a board，which said，"No parking"in the garden facing the road，but nobody noticed it．People seemed to obey（遵守） only a police notice ，but not a private one．There were no parked cars where there was a blue board with letters on it：Police Notice--No Parking!
    Mrs．Brown suggested that he could steal a police notice．He dared not，being afraid of going to prison．She then suggested that he could make one just like a police notice．He said he was not a policeman and couldn't use the word"police"．Several days later，Mr．Brown made a blue board with white letters：
    Polite Notice--No Parking!
    "Oh!"Mrs．Brown said，"You told me you weren't going to use the word"police"，but why do you use it now？""Really？"he asked，"Look again．"She started to laugh．"You are really clever．"

    Paragraph 1：
    Why did Mrs Brown say her husband was really rather clever？Because she found that he had written a notice which looked exactly like a police notice．He made a blue board with white letters on it，but it was not a real one．Being afraid of going to prison，Mr Brown certainly dared not use the word"police"，but he used"polite notice"instead of"police notice"．He was quite clever，wasn't he？
    Paragraph 2：
    If the police discovered that the Browns were using a police notice…they would feel angry and punish them．It was a crime because he offended the police，passing himself off as a policeman．But Mr Brown would remain very calm and ask the policemen to look at the board carefully．The policemen would burst out laughing when they realized what had happened．．
