20.Last December,Doris Low turned 90.Once a week she still drives to the Canadian National Institute for the Blind (CNIB) in Toronto, where she helps transform literature into Braille(盲文) to bring the power of story and knowledge to the ears and minds of blind readers. She has been volunteering her time and talents to such enterprises for more than 40 years.
After working in the business world for a while,Low got fed up.So she turned to teaching at a technical school and later moved into the library.
Low's mother liked reading. As her eyes began to fail,Low read to her. Then"hearing an advertisement encouraging people to learn Braille,I decided to give it a try."In 1973,she was certified as a Braille transcriber (转译者) and began transcribing books as a volunteer for the CNIB library.
The job was strenuous---she could get to the end of a page, make a mistake on the last line, and have to do the whole thing again. For a number of years,Low also worked in the CNIB sound studio reading books onto tape.Three years ago,she took up proofreading (校对) at the CNIB's word factory.
In April, during Volunteer Week, the CNIB recognized Low for her great contributions. Thanks to volunteers like Low,the CNIB library has got more than 80,000 accessible materials for people unable to read traditional print."I can't imagine how many readers of all ages have benefited from Doris's contribution as a skilled volunteer through her rich voice and her high degree of accuracy in the hundreds of books she has brailled and proof-read over the years---and she is still doing so,"said a CNIB official.
"For me,"said Low,"the CNIB is more than just a place to volunteer.Three things matter most in my life:a little play,a little work,a little love.I've found them all here."

Mistakes are common in our life. But attitudes on them may make a difference.
I still remember how my spoken English improved. At the beginning,I always kept
silently in the oral class to avoid to making mistakes. Before long my teacher knew
about my situation. He encouraged me to speak out that I wanted to speak.Whenever I
made mistakes and felt discouraging,my teacher and classmates will help me find out
how I could avoid it in the future.Practice makes perfect. With time went by,I built up  my confidences, and now I can talk fluently in English.Just as sa ying goes, mistakes are where success lies.We just need to learn a lesson from the mistakes.

5.As we know,it is common for people to catch a cold in winter and most people believe they know the reason for colds. However, scientists say people have some wrong beliefs about the cause of colds.
Many people think that once you get infected by colds, you will not be easy to be attacked by colds for the rest of your life. That's not the case. There are about 200 different viruses that cause the common cold. You catch a cold because of one kind of them this time, but you might catch a cold next time because of another.
Others believe that people get sick just because of the cold weather in winter. That is also wrong.
It's because people tend to stay closer in winter and the cold virus is transmitted from one person to another through handshakes, sneezing,or coughing.
While there is no actual cure for the common cold, scientists say there are still a few things you can do to help you. Some experts say honey and chicken soup are effective against colds.Especially honey. There is increasing evidence that it helps shorten the duration of the common cold sometimes even by two to three days particularly in children.Chicken soup also helps reduce the duration of the cold.
In addition,if you do have a cold and you don't feel like eating anything,it's not going to hurt you but you have to drink a lot and you can drink water or tea because doctors say the water cycle in your bodies helps to cure colds. That's very important.Though there is more than one way to deal with colds, doctors say the best advice is to continue using whatever works best for you.
