When I was a small child, my grandmother liked to put me on her lap (腿) in the evening. I comfortably fell asleep when listening to her stories of Snow White or Sleeping Beauty. As I grew older, I became more and more interested in stories.
On my 8th birthday, I got a special gift from my parents. That was several books about fairy tales (童话故事). My grandmother actually told me about those tales before. I can still remember how happy I was when I read those books. They were both familiar (熟悉的) and strange because they were in English.
At the end of Grade Three, I got the highest mark in English in my class. My teacher was surprised that I knew how to read and write words such as "prince", "princess", "witch" and "magic wand". Even now, I still read stories in English as a way to learn English. And I believe it can help others a lot to improve their English, just like it helped me. Here are my steps to learn English through stories:
