18.Of the many unpleasant emotions we can experience, fear may top the list.
(36)F.Fear can also keep us from pursuing the things in life that really matter-like following our dreams, and developing important relationships.I have some ideas, though,of how to be free from fear.
●Experience fear.
I used to be very afraid of speaking in front of people.I would get sweaty palms and my stomach would be so tied up that I wouldn't be able to eat. However, each time I spoke,I noticed afterwards that it wasn't that bad.Things I fear are never as bad in reality as I make them out in my mind.(37)D.
●Create space.
The first and most important step to being fearless is to create some space between ourselves and the emotion of fear. This isn't accomplished by ignoring the fear,or trying to talk ourselves out of it.(38)A.In fact,a recent research shows that by simply admitting the emotion we actually begin to reverse the"fight or flight(逃避)"response in the body.
●Control the breath and feel the fear.
Once we acknowledge the presence of fear, the second step is to control the breathing so that it becomes slower and gentler. We try to make the breath just a little bit longer, and feel how fear manifests(展现) in the body.(39)G.
With practice,we can create enough space between us and the emotion of fear so that we're able to replace a fearful thought with a positive one.(40)B.For instance, before I get up to speak in front of a group of people,I imagine that the audience is positively impressed by what I say and that I manage to complete the speech successfully.

A.Space is created only when we can honestly acknowledge that fear exists.
B.We can imagine a positive outcome for whatever we're about to do.
C.Fear,if left uncontrolled, can even destroy our life.
D.So one way to get rid of fear is to simply push ourselves to do things that we fear.
E.When we can see a positive outcome in our mind, fear no longer holds us back.
F.But fear is more than just physically unpleasant.
G.As we pay attention to the physical symptoms of fear,we can see fear objectively.

Fear can also keep us from pursuing the things in life that really matter"(恐惧也会阻止我们追求那些能让生活变得美好的事情),可知这里是:但是恐惧不只是一种生理上的不愉快.故选F.
37.D.推理判断题.根据上文的句子"Things I fear are never as bad in reality as I make them out in my mind."(我害怕的事情实际上没有那么糟糕,当我在脑海里思考它们的时候).可知这里是:更快的消除恐惧的方式就是让我们做害怕的事情.故选D.
38.A.推理判断题.根据本段标题Create space.及前两句"The first and most important step to being fearless is to create some space between ourselves and the emotion of fear. This isn't accomplished by ignoring the fear,or trying to talk ourselves out of it."(无畏的第一个也是最重要的一步是在自己和害怕的情感之间创造空间.这不是通过忽视恐惧或说服自己不要害怕).可知这里是:当我们诚实地承认恐惧的存在的时候,空间就被创造出来了.故选A.
39.G.推理判断题.根据上文的句子"We try to make the breath just a little bit longer, and feel how fear manifests(展现) in the body."(我们尽量让呼吸时间更长一点,感觉恐惧在身体里面是怎么展现的).可知这里是:当我们注意到恐惧的生理现象后,我们对待情感变得更加客观了.故选G.
40.B.推理判断题.根据上文的句子"For instance, before I get up to speak in front of a group of people,I imagine that the audience is positively impressed by what I say and that I manage to complete the speech successfully."(在演讲之前,我们可以相信听众对我们说的内容印象深刻).

6.The influence of America is increasing in my country.Spanish people drink Coca Cola, wear blue jeans, watch Hollywood movies, listen to American music, and eat fast food, and they do these things every day.
I think that American movies are a good way to spread American culture because people are often influenced by what they see in the movies. Most of the programs and documentaries (纪录片) we watch on TV are from America, and most of the movies we go to see are made in Hollywood. In the last few years, the government has tried to protect the Spanish movies. Now,in our cinemas,at least twenty percent of the movies which are shown must be from Spain or from other countries in Europe.
American culture is a part of Spanish life no w.It's certain that many things from America are as much a part of people's lives as Spanish things. For example,Coca Cola is as familiar to everybody as any typical Spanish product.I've known about Coca Cola for my whole life.
However,it's different with Western fast food. For example,I don't think McDonald's is as successful in Spain as it is in other countries. In my opinion, one of the reasons may be the lifestyle of the Spanish people. The Spanish people normally eat at home.On the other hand, maybe McDonald's hamburgers will eventually replace the famous Spanish tapas. It's true that in every city in Spain you can find a McDonald's,and it is more popular among the Spanish children than among the adults. In any case,it's obvious that American culture is becoming more and more a part of our lives every day.

B.most Spanish people don't like to listen to their own music
C.fast food spreads from Spain to the United States
D.some Spanish actors go to America to improve their acting skills
50.What plays an important part in the spreading of American culture in Spain?B
A.American novels.B.Hollywood movies.C.McDonald's.D.American music.

C.To limit the number of foreign movies.
D.To unite the European Community.
52.What do you think Spanish tapas might be?D

13.After the examination, the doctor told my parents my sight would get worse and that I would lose my sight finally. On the way home from hospital,no one said a word. One day, would I only imagine the scenery beyond the glass rather than see it?
That September,I entered middle school. Most nights I had homework that included an armful of books to read.To keep up with other children,I took great trouble to finish the task. With my nose a couple of inches from the page,I was tired easily. What's worse, after I had read several pages on my own,the words slipped off the page into inky pools.
However, then I did not have audio books and electronic devices like kids do now.Instead,Mom volunteered to read out loud.Mom worked part-time,cleaned the house, cooked and spent time with Grandma. In spite of being so busy, she showed up in my room like clockwork. She put on her reading glasses.Mom always thought those glasses made her look old.To me,she looked like a teacher.
In my room,Mom's voice competed with the ticking of the clock.Being forced to focus on listening,I found a way to keep my marks up and compete with the other kids. When the teacher asked a question,I raised my hand with confidence.Teachers praised me for having a good memory.Reading removed my fear for my failing sight, reading also made me curious about other people's challenges and how they managed.Though I could not use my eyes to fix on each page,my mind lit up with every new book.
True to what the doctor said, the worst came, but thanks to Mom,my sense of hearing now allows me to"see".This was the most precious gift from a mother to her child.

3.Most damagingly, anger weakens a person's ability to think clearly and keep control over his behaviour. The angry person loses objectivity in evaluating the emotional significance of the person or situation that arouses his anger.
Not everyone experiences anger in the same way; what angers one person may amuse another. The specific expression of anger also differs from person to person based on biological and cultural forces. In contemporary culture, physical expressions of anger are generally considered too socially har mful to be tolerated. We no longer regard duels(决斗) as an appropriate expression of anger resulting from one person's awareness of insulting behaviour on the part of another.
Anger can be identified in the brain, where the electrical activity changes.Under most conditions EEG (脑电图) measures of electrical activity show balanced activity between the right and left prefrontal (额叶前部) areas.Behaviourally this corresponds to the general even-handed disposition (意向)that most of us possess most of the time. But when we are angry the EEG of the right and left prefrontal areas aren't balanced and.as a res ult of this,we're likely to react. And our behavioural response to anger is different from our response to other emotions, whether positive or negative.
Most positive emotions are associated with approach behaviour:we move closer to people we like. Most negative emotions,in contrast, are associated with avoidance behaviour:we move away from people and things that we dislike or that make us anxious. But anger is an exception to this pattern. The angrier we are.the more likely we are to move towards the object of our anger. This corresponds to what psychologists refer to as offensive anger:the angry person moves closer in order to influence and control the person or situation causing his anger. This approach-and-confront behaviour is accompanied by a leftward prefrontal asymmetry (不对称 ) of EEG activity.Interestingly, this asymmetry lessens if the angry person can experience empathy (同感) towards the individual who is bringing forth the angry response. In defensive anger,in contrast, the EEG asymmetry is directed to the right and the angry person feels helpless in the face of the anger-inspiring situation.
62.The"duels"example in Paragraph 2 proves that the expression of anger.C
A.usually has a biological basis
B.varies among people
C.is socially and culturally shaped
D.influences one's thinking and evaluation
63.What changes can be found in an angry brain?B
A.Balanced electrical activity can be spotted.
B.Unbalanced patterns are found in prefrontal areas.
C.Electrical activity corresponds to one's behaviour.
D.Electrical activity agrees with one's disposition.
64.Which of the foll owing is typical of offensive anger?A
A.Approaching the source of anger.
B.Trying to control what is disliked.
C.Moving away from what is disliked.
D.Feeling helpless in the face of anger.
65.What is the key message of the last paragraph?D
A.How anger differs from other emotions.
B.How anger relates to other emotions.
C.Behavioural responses to anger.
D.Behavioural patterns of anger.

10.What's your opinion on spicy food? Some people cannot handle even the smallest amount of chili(辣椒) in their dinner while others can't get enough of it.
Scientists have long been puzzled by why some people love chili and others loathe it.Plenty of research has been done on the subject, dating as far back as the 1970s.Previous results showed that a love of chili is related to childhood experiences, and cultural influences affect our taste buds, too. But the latest study has found that a person's love of spicy food may be linked to his or her personality more than anything else,CBC News reported.
"We have always assumed that liking drives intake---we eat what we like and we like what we eat.But no one h as actually directly bothered to connect these personality traits with intake of chili peppers,"said Professor John Hayes from Pennsylvania State University, who led the study.
But before you look at the study, you should first know that"spicy"is not a taste, unlike sour, sweet, bitter and salty. It is,in fact,a burning sensation that you feel on the surface of your tongue. This got scientists thinking that maybe a love of spicy food is brought about by people's longing for thrill, something they usually get from watching action movies or riding a roller coaster.
In the study,97 participants, both male and female, were asked to fill out questionnaires about certain traits of their personality, for example.Whether they like new experiences or tend to avoid risks. They were then given cu ps of water with capsaicin(辣椒素),the plant chemical that makes chili burn, mixed into them.
By comparing the answers to questionnaires and what participants said they felt about the spicy water.Researchers found that those who most tended to enjoy action movies or take risks were about six times more likely to enjoy the spicy water.
Interestingly,we used to believe that the reason some people can withstand spicy food is that their tongue have become less sensitive to it.However, this latest study has found otherwise. It's not that it doesn't burn as badly,it's that you actually learn to like the burn,"Hayes explained.
25.What's the meaning of the underlined word"loathe"in the second paragraph?A
A.dislike                              B.fear

B.Males are more likely to enjoy spicy food than females.
C.Those trying to avoid risks tend to be less interested in spicy food.
D.People are wrong to treat spicy as a kind of taste rather than a feeling.
27.Why do some people like spicy food according to the recent study?B
A.Because their taste buds have become less sensitive.
B.Because they love the burning sensation.
C.Because they want to challenge themselves.
D.Because the more they try spicy food, the less it burns.
28.What's the main idea of the passage?B
A.What he or she likes to eat mainly decides on his or her personality.
B.That a person enjoys sp icy food depends largely on the personality.
C.His or her childhood experiences decide on his or her personality.
D.His or her cultural background decides on his or her personality.
