1. Listening(1): Listen and take down the things Holly and Maria like about their friends. What do they think a good friend should be like? Oral summary: “To Holly, a good friend should like to do the same things as she does/be popular/be good at sports. To Maria, a good friend should be a good listener/keep secrets.” Do you agree with them?
2. Listening(2): What else are they talking about? →Same things: “both”; Different things: “-er”/ “more ~”. →Listen again and take down the same things and different things between them.
3. Post listening: Compare you and your friend. List the same things and different things between you. Do you have more same things or different things? Should friends be the same or different?
4. Sharing personal experiences: A warming-up for listening task. T: You are sitting together with your friends today. What do you like about her/him?
3. Sharing opinions with T:
(1)Share T’s list: ①A good friend should be a good listener. ②A good friend shouldn’t be
a show-off. ③A good friend should be ready to help. ④A good friend should keep secrets.
(2) T’s wish: “I really want to find some friends here.” T’s questions: “Are you a good listener? …Can you keep secrets?” Ss answer and T decides if s/he can be her friend. Ss ask T questions according to their own list to see if T can be their friends.
2. Reporting: When one group reports, the other groups listen and add more to their own list. (2 groups report. Then other groups tell new points.)
(1) Which one do your group not have? Take it down.
(2) Why do you think so?
(3) Reflecting: Read the list. Ask yourself: “Am I…? Do I …?” Are you a good friend yourself?
