3. What’s ___ telephone number? ( she )
2. Is that ___ backpack? ( you )
Now let’s focus on part 4, the teaching procedure. I want to carry it out in the following steps: Step 1 Greeting, reviewing and lead-in, it will cost about 10 minutes; step 2 Grammar focus, it will also take about 10 minutes; step 3 Pair work, which will cost 12 minutes; step 4 Practice and Consolidation, and I will spend about 5 minutes on it; step 5 homework, which will take about 3 minutes. Then I’ll talk about them separately.
Stepⅰ. Greeting, reviewing and lead-in (10 minutes)
First, I will greet to the students as usual. Second, in order to check whether the students master the key
words learnt in last period well, I will have a dictation (subject, science, P.E., math, art, music, Chinese). Third, I will ask some students some questions like these: “What’s your favorite subject (e.g. science)?”, “Why do you like (science)?”, “Who is your (science) teacher?”, which aims to review the key language points learnt in the last period and to lead in the new target language.
Stepⅱ. Grammar focus (10 minutes)
In this step, in order to review the use of the possessive adjectives my, your, his and her, I will ask some questions using each possessive adjective and check that students use the appropriate one in their responses. And then I will show some exercises on the screen:
1. This is ___ friend. ( I )
Well, according to the teaching key points and difficult points, I will adopt communicative approach, pair work and practice method as my teaching method in my class. Students are trained to learn and think independently. Besides, I will use a computer and the blackboard as the teaching aids.
Now, I would like to introduce the teaching key points and difficult points.
According to this lesson, the key points for teaching are to help the students master the new words: description; word; because; teacher; Mrs.; partner; city. Besides the difficult points for teaching are to make the students master the target language: ① What’s your favorite subject? ② Why do you like math/science…etc.? ③ Who is your science teacher? ④ What’s your mother’s favorite color?
First, let’s come to my understanding of the teaching material. For this lesson is a grammar and consolidation course, its purpose is to improve the students’ speaking ability as well as to help them grasp the grammar focus. All these tasks will be done in order that students can use English to express their favorite things well. So I’d like to divide this lesson’s objectives into three categories:
① Knowledge Objective:
In this lesson, students are required to master the ability of talking about their favorite subject and explain the reason as well as learn to ask someone else about their favorite things.
② Ability Objective
This lesson focuses on grammar and consolidation, so I will train the students’ speaking skill, practice skill and communicative competence. Besides, in order to cultivate their ability of discussion, dialogue and even performing, students should be asked to talk freely in English with partners by using the expressions and then act their dialogues out.
③ Moral Objective
Unit 12 is a unit about favorite subject. As we know, at present there are many students whose schoolwork are quite imbalanced, they may be interested in one or two subjects and do well in them. Therefore, I’ll tell students not to be interested in only one or two subjects.
