Reading: How do we deal with our problems?

Teaching Procedures Step 1  Key Vocabulary Show the following vocabulary on the screen by a projector. Say the words and have students repeat several times until they can pronounce them fluently and accurately. Step 2  Section 1 1. For 1a, say, My son had a fever the other day. After taking some medicine, he went to bed early. The teacher criticized him for not doing his homework the next day. Could you give him some ways to deal with his problem? Encourage  the students to give advice. Can you think of any problems you have had recently? Please work in pairs and tell your partner how you dealt with them. . 2. For 1b, tell the students to have a quick look at the words in the box. Say, Please look up the meaning of each word in the box in a dictionary. Step 3  Section 2 1. Read the title of the reading along with the class and ask the students to look at the picture. Ask, What do you think the text is about? (The reading is about some ways of dealing with our problems.) 2. Say, Please read the text silently and find out the answers to the questions. How many ways of dealing with our problems are mentioned in the text? What are they? Check the answers. Step 4  Section 3 1. For 3a, let the students look at the words from 1b again. Check the words that were used differently from the definition they found in the dictionary. Say, Dictionaries are useful learning tools, but many English words have different meanings and usages. We need to make sure that the definitions we find in dictionaries match the context. 2. For 3b, ask the students to look up the words in the box in a dictionary and write out the example given for the context used in the reading.Write the sample answers on the blackboard.
