①would rather than (not) do sth. 宁愿(不)做某事 She would rather stay at home.

②would rather do A than do B = would do A rather than do B　 宁愿做A事，也不愿做B事

Tom would rather live alone than marry that girl.

=Tom would live alone rather than marry that girl. Tom宁愿独居也不愿意和那女孩结婚。
